Thank you. We're about 95% packed and ironically although it's only three of us since dear daughter and her fiancée are coming down separately we have more stuff than ever and will be taking two cars. Crazy, but that's what happens when wifey and dear son make an unsupervised visit to Costco. Tonight's going to be an "eat the fridge night" and then we're going across the street to visit our long time friends and hang out around their firepit. It won't be a late night because I want to get up early-ish, head down to the beach, and hopefully beat the crush of traffic that will most certainly happen as the day progresses.

It's always enjoyable to go on vacation, but I find the days leading up to it and particularly the day before we leave stressful. Lots of little things to take care of and a worry about forgetting something. I always overthink the packing before I go away. I usually end up with far too few clothes, far too many or just the wrong sort. In reality, as you said, as long as you aren't going somewhere incredibly isolated you can pick things up. Worst for me is footwear. If I don't take what I need, I'd find it really difficult to remedy with my wide feet. Enjoy your vacation/holiday. I've got today and tomorrow to stress over my trip.

Thanks Graham. I rarely forget anything because I make a list before packing. Enjoy your trip. UpdateI had a very sedentary vacation with the exception of short walks most days. For the week I gained three pounds. I got right back to the exercise regimen yesterday with a Boot Camp class. Four rounds of: Rower Various stability ball exercises Treadmill Jump squats Stationary bike Renegade rows Sliders Mountain climbers After that there was some functional exercise helping dear son get packed for his move to Boston on Saturday. He's rented a U-Haul and wifey and I have made it clear that we will help move boxes and such, but we're not moving any big furniture. Fortunately a couple of his cousins have stepped up to the plate. Wifey and I will be going to help him move in and also see dear daughter and her fiancée's new apartment. It's about a mile from where they used to live, is over twice the size, and is less costly. They spent the last two years in a building that is essentially a luxury hotel, but since they work so much they never used most of the amenities. One example of this is that my future SIL went to the pool for the first time a couple of days before they moved just so he could say he went into it. Have a great day!

It is convenient for you to have both children in the same city. Like the expression "killing 2 birds with one stone", you get to visit both on one visit.

UpdateTuesday morning fun with my trainer. Three rounds of: Incline treadmill fast walk/slow run Low planks Supermans Weighted glute bridges Flat bench Db presses Single arm Db bench rows Push ups Ab roller No cooking last night because we went to a late lunch with my MIL and nobody was hungry. Have a great day!

We're set to leave in about an hour to take my MIL to doctor appointments that will take up the bulk of the day so earlier I did some stretching and will bring my grippers to use while I wait outside when wifey and her mother are being attended to. I also plan on getting some walking done during my downtime. Unlike the past couple of times when I forgot my grippers this morning I placed them next to my car keys so there's a high likelihood that I'll remember them this time.
Dinner last night was suggested by dear son and it was prime rib eye steaks, pasta, and a salad. With the increased cost of beef this was an expensive weekday at home meal, but I justified it because dear son will be moving on Saturday. For the record, it was delicious. :-)
Have a great day!

There will be no exercising today as it's the holiest day in the Jewish calendar and although I'm not religious I do fast today.
There was no cooking yesterday because once again we went to a late lunch with my MIL after she finished with her doctors. Dear son went out with friends and wifey and I just picked at some leftovers.
Have a great day!

Almost everything that dear son will be taking is ready to go and I've already gotten some functional exercise by bringing some stuff to a staging area on the first floor. At noon he and I will pick up a U-Haul and along with wifey probably start loading some of the lighter items. Around four my nephews are coming to help with the heavy stuff. The plan is to have everything on the truck by tonight with the exception of his bed because wants his last night here to be spent sleeping in his bed in his room. After we load that early tomorrow AM we'll head north to reverse the process.
My sister brought dinner over last night so no cooking for me.
TGIF!

Good luck. Are y'all excited to become empty nesters? Thanks Mac. It's a bag of mixed emotions. We're happy and excited that he has the confidence and financial resources to make this move, we think it will open up some very nice social opportunities for him and, most importantly, it's what he wanted to do. OTOH, we're going to miss him being around. The paradox as a parent is that you spend a lot of time and energy teaching your child how to be a responsible and successful person and now that he's leaving wifey and I can look at each other and say we did a fine job, but while it's going to be an emotional change we'll be fine and adjust to our new lifestyle. UpdateThe packing took longer than expected, more due to downtime than anything else, but everything with the exception of dear son's mattress is ready to go. We decided to take care of the frame and box spring today to save time tomorrow AM. The plan is for everyone to be rolling by 7 AM; wifey and I will take dear dog to the spa and dear son and one of his cousins will drive the truck north. So, as expected exercise for today and tomorrow was and will be functional. Good night and I'll next post on Monday.

The move to Boston went really well. No glitches; we left on time and with dear son, his cousin, me, wifey, dear daughter and her fiancé working together unloading the U-Haul went quickly. We got him totally set up in his apartment and then took a tour of the neighborhood. It's fantastic for a young person and he's within walking distance to all sorts of necessary stores, like a supermarket, as well as fun places like pubs and restaurants. We went to dinner at one of the restaurants that night. It was nothing fancy, but very good fare at reasonable prices. Sunday we met in dear daughter's neighborhood and went to brunch with a cousin who lives in the same building.
No real exercise yesterday other than walking about three miles round trip for brunch. I'm not sore from the move, but will likely limit my exercise today to walking a few miles. In general I need to get more active, something I've written about before and have not followed through on, so today I plan on cobbling together something.
Now that dear son is not living here I'm free to make dishes with ingredients he doesn't care for so there will be a marginal change in our dinners. Ironically, I'm not sure if I'll be cooking tonight because starting today we're having a contractor start doing some work in the house and if he starts in the kitchen I won't have access to it. No job is major, and some I can do myself, but we aggregated a number of them to make it worth his while.
Have a great day!
