You are now one of the cool kids, wearing Hoka running shoes. All the cool kids wear them now. The are opening a flagship store on 5th Avenue, while they are building it, there is a temporary store now on 5th Avenue nearby. Yep, that's me, one of the cool kids. Image is everything and all that.....not!!!!! UpdateTrainer fun this morning was three rounds of: Low planks with leg and arm reach outs Crunches Trap bar deadlifts Standing Bb shoulder presses Sled Standing lateral Db raises Ab wheel rollouts Db reverse forearm curls Sliders I had some errands to run today and when I got back from putting things away in the basement I came upstairs expecting to be alone in the house and saw dear son standing in the kitchen. After I got over my initial startle, he told me he had messaged to say he was coming over so that he could participate in the small birthday celebration of a friend's tonight. I'm glad he's here, but his appearance did get my heart racing. TGIF!

Saturday Boot Camp is in the books and it was three rounds of:
Up downs Stationary bicycle Kb deadlifts Heavy ropes Jump squats with a medicine ball Leg raises Db goblet squats TRX table top rows Anchored sit ups Rower
I really didn't feel like going, but I knew that I would be miffed at myself if I didn't do so and that I would absolutely feel better afterward. Not that I was feeling bad per se, just that I didn't feel like getting out of bed. Fortunately, the right decision was made. After that I stopped by a local food pantry to drop off some food. I rarely donate my time lately, but usually drop off food about once per month.
This afternoon I’ll be mired in paperwork getting my tax information in order so I’m prepared when I meet with my accountant next week. Tonight we have a St. Paddy’s Day party to attend; wifey has made her award winning (literally) soda bread and will also be making some traditional Irish sausages that came from across the pond.
No cooking last night as we went out to dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
Have a great day!

Sunday Boot Camp was three rounds of:
Ab wheel rollouts Stationary bicycle Romanian twists Heavy ropes Hanging knee tucks Dynamic step ups Romanian deadlifts Rower
No cooking last night because we went to a St. Patrick's Day party.
In a short while we'll be leaving to first visit my mother's grave as it's the anniversary of her death and then we're headed to a St. Patrick's Day parade where will meet dear son and at least one of our nephews. After that we're going to dinner with friends who are visiting from Australia; the husband is the person who introduced me and wifey.
Have a great day!

Very minimal exercising today, just three rounds of grippers. Most of the day was spent doing some paper work and taking my MIL to the dentist, which of course was followed by lunch. I showed some constraint and brought home leftovers which may or may not be eaten later today. Regardless, there will be no proper dinner.
Have a great day!

Trainer fun this morning was three rounds of:
Up downs Abductors Goblet squats Weighted step ups Bb deadlifts Sled Anchored sit ups Leg raises
After that I had a check up with my new GP, PCP, or whatever they’re called now. She’s in the same practice as my previous doctor so she had full access to my medical records, but we still had the necessary meet and greet. The subsequent poke and prod, and question sessions all went well.
The couple I mentioned that is here from Australia is coming to dinner tonight. They’re here due to a medical complication for the husband’s 93 year old father yet made time to see us Sunday night and made it clear that they wanted to spend time with us again before the fly home on Friday. Really good friends, who as the saying goes, when we get together the comfort level is as if we saw each other last week. I’m really pressed for time so I’ve come up with an easy, quick, and hopefully tasty menu.
An anecdote about the couple is that the husband went through a number of life changes (jobs, divorce, re-marriage, addresses) and we lost touch with him for a few years despite trying to track him down. One Sunday morning I get an email asking if I was “me” and stating that he tracked me down because my name came up as a troop leader for dear son’s Boy Scouts troop. I went slightly ballistic shouting to wifey who also went a bit nuts. The then teenage kids thought we were batshit crazy even after we explained why we were so excited. Finally, I stopped them dead in their tracks of puzzlement when I once again told them he introduced me and Mom and ended with “If it wasn’t for him there would be no you.” Existential pondering for the win.
Have a great day!

Exercise this morning was three sets of pushups (20,20,20) and that will likely be the totality of exertion for the day.
In about twenty minutes we’re leaving to take my MIL to a doctor appointment which will be followed with a meal. It’s her birthday today so our plan is to go back to her apartment after lunch and have a small celebration.
Last night was a lot of fun. Serious talk, funny talk, preliminary planning for our trip to Australia in the beginning of 2025, and everyone ate well, including the four legged member of the Seltzer family. I put out a number of appetizers on the living room table and shortly after our guests arrived the humans momentarily left the room and dear dog took the opportunity to snarf down about a pound of various cheeses that I smoked. Ugh! Fortunately, she isn't having any gastro issues.
Have a great day!

Clever dog. Brazen, clever.....it's a good thing she's cute. UpdateExercise this morning was three sets of grippers interspersed with knee tucks. No cooking last night because we had dinner with my MIL after her doctor appointment. I’m alone for dinner tonight because wifey has a girls’ night out. I’m not sure what I’ll make, probably nothing too labor or time intensive, and after I plan on reading and playing with dear dog. In other non fitness news, I somehow managed to lose a book. I had it with me when I went to my doctor on Tuesday, but later that day I couldn’t find it. I know that I went straight home after my appointment and a call to the doctor’s office the following day in the long shot hope that I accidentally left it there didn’t end with the desired outcome. I’ve searched the car I was driving and every reasonable place in the house the book could be more than once so all that’s left is to search the unreasonable places. This morning I checked the library’s website to see if I somehow dropped the book somewhere ( ) and someone returned to the library. Since it’s a library book I’m going to have to pay for it if it’s not found, but more annoying than the waste of money is the mystery of where it is. On a more positive note from the previous paragraph, I met with my accountant yesterday and submitted all the necessary paperwork, so that’s one more thing I can check off my “to do” list. Have a great day!

Coincidentally, I took out 2 DVD's from the library last week. I get a message on my phone from the library, that one of my neighbors is very nice, and found my DVD, and returned it to the library. I thought they called the wrong person, but I checked the website and one movie was returned. I have no idea how it got out of my car (I never took it out of my car). I was thinking maybe I left the car unlocked, and someone took them, and was only interested in seeing Barbie, and discarded the other. But nothing else was taken, so maybe somehow it fell out of my car when I took out something. I find that hard to believe though, since Barbie is a bright pink package, and I would have to be blind not to see it fall out of my car. I never even saw either movie. Barbie is due back at the library on Saturday.

Exercise this morning was three sets of Db shoulder shrugs and Db side raises.
After hemming and hawing about whether to eat in or go out to dinner for our anniversary, and if it was the latter, where we decided to dine at a restaurant wifey and a number of our friends have been to, but I never was. It did not disappoint. It’s owned by a husband/wife team who previously had an awesome restaurant in the same spot, gave it up about six years ago years ago due to the grind, and when the space became available again decided to get back in the game with a smaller menu. We had two reservation options 5:30 and 9; we took the earlier one, were back home before 8 and then went across the street to hang out with friends.
Because of unfortunate circumstances my cousin and his husband who live in Seattle are in town and we’re going to be meeting them along with my sister and dear son for lunch later today. The unfortunate circumstance is that my cousin’s step mother fell ill earlier in the week so they flew out to see her. Somewhat unexpectedly she passed away two days ago. The similarities to what the Seltzers went through in February with my step mother are huge and this is the second time in a week that we’re getting together with people we care for yet don’t see often due to distance who are in are area because of the illness of a loved one.
Have a great day!

After yesterday’s workout and cycle of life activities (birthday party and memorial service) wifey I were tired, but need some time to wind down after we got home. Nothing too late as we were in bed by 11, but I had a terrible sleep which at some point started to include a little crick in my neck that didn’t help matters. I certainly didn’t wake up refreshed, but it didn’t stop me from meeting a friend for breakfast and after giving my oatmeal time to settle going to a rare Monday training session. I did three rounds of:
High plank with shoulder taps Bb bench presses TRX table top rows Bb skullcrushers Db single arm bench rows Push ups Leg raises Crunches
It was a very solid performance, once again demonstrating that how you feel going in isn’t necessarily correlated with how things will go.
Have a great day!
