Mon - 4/22. Blood pressure was pretty low today, the average of the 3 was 99/52. The first reading was 99 /50; 2nd: 90/53; 3rd: 107/54. While I thought maybe I shouldn't run today, I did run again for 45 of the 104 minutes on the treadmill. I feel great now. I think the weight gain of 5 pounds the prior week was a fluke, and I expect Saturday's weigh in to be in the 180's again. I am going to the doctor for my pre-surgury physical exam Friday. While there, I am going to ask him if I should stop taking the blood pressure medication. I also am going to insist on an apob blood test. If he refuses, I am done with this doctor. Part of me wants to look at video's of the cataract surgery on youtube, so I know what to expect, the other part of me thinks if I see the video, I will cancel the surgery. It is going to be difficult the two week time before the 2nd surgery. One eye will have 20/20 vision, the other will need my eye glasses. I probably will have to have clear glass put on one side of my eyeglasses, once I find out which eye they are doing first.

I am in the locker room of the gym, and this gym rat (like myself) is talking to someone, and that guy leaves. So I am the only one available to talk to, and this guy loves to talk. He said "sir, do you mind if I ask you how old you are?" I tell him 65. That was the first time I ever said it out loud, my birthday was this past Wednesday. I got to say, I didn't like the way it sounded coming out of my mouth. It sounded like I was talking about another person, how could I possibly be 65. He said, when I am your age, I hope I am in as good condition as you are. He said he was 30. It was a complement, but after I was thinking to someone 30, 65 is old, he might think someone 65 walking without a cane is in good condition. Nevertheless, it made me feel good. vegan: m-t-d: 7; y-t-d: 31 vegetarian: m-t-d: 3; y-t-d: 18 pescatarian: m-t-d: 4 ; y-t-d: 26 other: m-t-d: 8; y-t-d: 38 total days: m-t-d: 22; y-t-d: 113 Morning blood pressure: today: 114 / 60 HR 51 Streaks: 1. Tues - 4/23. Blood pressure was identical for yesterday and today. I miss the diet soda from Panera, but I don't want to buy diet soda, since that would defeat the purpose of cancelling Panera. Today I bought a box of LaCroix flavored seltzer (12 cans) to see if I would like that as a substitute. Today I was off from work, I went to the Health Department of the town I was born in (Hackensack), and was able to get a copy of my birth certificate for $17.50. They printed it right on the spot. It actually was $15.00, but they didn't take cash. If you paid by check, they hold it for 30 days, then you have to go back there to pick it up in 30 days. So while it was a rip off to pay a fee of $2.50 to pay by credit card for a $15.00 charge, it was worth it. Now I am going to make an appointment for the Real ID. I think the mobile van from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles is still in Bergen county, so I am going to try to make an appointment after I am done here.

I would still like to reach 23K today, but don't know if that is going to happen. I was able to make an appointment for the Read ID License an the adjacent town, the Dept of Motor Vehicles will be there on 5/16. I was lucky, they were almost out of appointments.

Sauna minutes total for week: 160 minutes. Weight this morning: 191.60 vs 194 last week. I went for my pre-surgery physical yesterday. It was a physical in name only. All they took was my weight, and blood pressure, asked me how I felt, and that was the extent of the visit. My blood pressure was slightly higher in the doctors office than when I took it yesterday. It was 118 vs 109 when I took it, but still within range. Since they weren't taking blood, I kept quiet about the apob test, and will wait until my next physical in December. I also didn't ask about cancelling the blood pressure medication. First of all, I don't need his permission to stop taking it. Even if I do stop, I want to continue getting the prescription filled, since that will give me some leeway when the prescription runs out, I won't need to rush to the pharmacy to pick up a renewal, in case I decide to start taking it again. Weds - 05/01. This month was my best blood pressure readings since I started keeping records. Only 2 days in the 130's, 19 readings this month 120 or less. I wish I knew the reason, so I would know what I am doing right. Regarding the sauna after the cataract surgery, not allowed for the first week after. So there will probably be no sauna's for me for about a month. I will wait until at least a week after the 2nd eye is done. I was expecting that I would need to put eye drops in my eyes for a month after each eye is done. But that isn't necessary. The doctor said about 2 years ago, there was an advance. During the surgery, they put the eye drops in the eyes, and that slowly releases what needs to be released over the next month. I was expecting them to ask me if I wanted laser surgery, but when they didn't ask, I asked them. The nurse said this doctor rarely uses laser, so he won't be using laser on my operation. They put you out during the operation, but not totally asleep like during a colonosopy. You are awake, but sort of out of it. Not out of it totally, so if the doctor asks you to look in a certain direction, you can comply. It is hard for me to believe they will be cutting my eye, and I won't be totally asleep.

This April 25% on unprocessed foods; 10% on protein; 65% on processed foods. I spent 1,703 minutes on the treadmill (28 hours & 23 minutes), of which 373 minutes running (6 hours & 13 minutes), running 22% of the time. 688 minutes in the sauna (11 hours and 28 minute).

Today it felt back to normal, but since I am training legs tomorrow, I gave it another day's rest and did cardio again. This month I am trying to stay more focused on nutrition. To get more disciplined with diet, I plan on the only protein this month will be fish, no chicken or meat of any type, and no dairy. I have been straying too much from my core plan of being at least vegetarian.

Friday - 05/03. Good workout today. Today I take my gym bag out of my car, it feels light. When I open it, I see I forgot to put in my running shoes that I wear to work. After being on the treadmill (running / walking) for 3 days in a row, and I was drenched each time, my running shoes that I wear to the gym smell. It was either go home to get my shoes, or wear these to work. I chose to wear these to work, mainly because Friday is a light day on the bus, and most likely I would get my own seat. It worked that way coming in. Hopefully the same will happen tonight. TGIF.

I have to cut my lawn today, it is the first time this season. It really should have been cut last week. Tomorrow I believe rain is expected so it needs to be cut today. I got the time for my surgery Monday, I have to be there at 12:20 pm. While the surgery is only about 20 minutes, they told me to be prepared to be there for about 3 hours. I can't drink water after 6:00 am on Monday. I probably will drink a lot of water before I go to the gym Monday, and won't drink anything after 6:00 am while at the gym.

Sun - 5/05. I had a good workout today, though I am still having an issue with my outer right bicep. Since I am taking off a month from lifting after tomorrow (leg day) I decided to lift anyway. I got all of the steps done at the gym today due to rain, when I came home, I felt exhausted, and slept for 90 minutes. I have to get ready for tomorrow, which is not much. I just have to wear loose fitting clothing, and short sleeves, and no watch. When I went for my pre-surgery visit last week, they gave me a small bag containing a plastic disk and tape to cover my eye when I sleep the first week, and I cannot locate where I put the bag. If I can't find it tonight, I have to call the doctors office tomorrow morning, and pick up a replacement. After the surgery there is not much to do. The next week as I mentioned there is no exercise except walking, no sauna, no lifting anything over 20 pounds, when showering close eyes so water doesn't get in, and no bending down. The last is especially important, since there are no stitches, and when you bend it puts pressure in your head. I am going to take out the left lenses from my eye glasses, so that I can wear my eye glasses that I will need only for my right eye for the next two weeks. I was going to go to the optometrist and get a clear glass lenses put in, bur decided against it. It is only for 2 weeks. I used to wear contacts, and I thought about wearing them again in just my right eye. I have gas permeable lenses, and it takes time to get used to after not wearing them for so long. So for 2 weeks, it didn't seem worth it.
