Thanks for the one punch explanation. When you originally wrote about it I thought of a contest I saw clips of a few years ago where guys would face each other and alternate giving slaps to their respective opponent's face until one gave up. Not exactly the way I would chose to spend my time. Your version sounds more to my liking although at this point I would struggle with the run.

They make slapping look manly, ouch.

Happy Monday!
How was your weekend? I hope it was as awesome as mine!
This weekend was amazing!
Saturday I ran 19.7 km. I decided I was going to attempt half marathon on a whim. Terrible idea. It was 31C and in the sun it felt closer to 34-35C. I was strong until km 16 and that is when things went downhill. I began to struggle to hold a 9-10 min/km pace., this led to walking more than I could run. At one point I simply had to stop because I ran out of time (we had other things to get done) I held a 7:00-7:30 min/km for most of it, after km 16 I spent more time walking which destroyed my km average.
I was so damn close to that 21.1 km. If I had only a little more time. It's ok though, this is the farthest I have ever run and I feel really good about that!
Minus that I didn't do anything over the weekend that resembled training, in fact, I did all the things that were opposite. I drank in excess, ate in excess, stayed up way too late, slept in too long...it was well worth it. We spent our weekend hanging out with friends we hadn't seen in a while. Good times.
But I gotta run, lots to do today...Mondays, am I right?
Have a good one.!

That distance and pace in those conditions is a very nice accomplishment, especially since it's a PR for distance.

That distance and pace in those conditions is a very nice accomplishment, especially since it's a PR for distance. Thanks! I was really happy with the outcome for the most part. There are things I learned and a few things I clearly didn't learn from my 18.9 km a couple months back. Mainly, I need to prepare better for something like this. I need to start out when things are cooler, not middle of the day...especially a hot day! Ugh! My hydration pack, debit card, and electrolyte/sodium tabs, would be good to have on hand as well. Finally (and most important) communicate my intentions with my wife so that we can plan properly for the day. Doing this on a whim isn't a wise idea. It would seem I still need to learn things the hard way once and awhile.

Good Morning! Happy Wednesday! How are you? I hope your day is going well. After my 19.7km run, I took a few days to recoup. I have to be honest I woke up the following day and felt pretty much normal which is leagues different from my previous PR distance run. Perhaps it was all the drinking and food I ate shortly after the run that made the difference This morning I pumped out 50 push-ups, 50 squats, 50 sit-ups, and tonight I'll do a quick 5k for good measure. I've considered breaking up the one punch man challenge into 2 daily workouts. 50/5k in the morning and then 50/k at night. The idea is to do 100/10k a day, there is no mention of it all having to be done at once. heh, heh. It seems to be that time again. I'll catch you in a bit. Don't forget, eh?... ...to keep being awesome!

Mernin'
How's everything? You good? Hopefully, everything's ok on your end.
Last nights 5k didn't happen, as soon as I got home it started to pour...and it wasn't just a little bit. While it rained I did the dishes, made dinner, did the laundry, ate dinner, cleaned up, did more dishes, checked on the weather (still was raining), took a shower, and jumped into bed.
This morning was a bit of a slow start. I was going to get that 5k in this morning but I was moving at a snail's pace and missed the opportunity. So I used what time I had to work on my one punch man training. I'm happy to report I banged out 100 push-ups, 100 squats, 100 sit-ups! I was working for it and right now everything still feels weak and jittery (I did the workout a couple of hours ago). I have a feeling I'll be sore tomorrow, that's ok though.
I'm going to get that 5k done today! I need to get that pounded out.
Speaking of which,
I was on Strava and looking at my stats and I've noticed my activity level has been dropping at an alarming rate. This past month I have just over 18 hours of activity which is a far cry from my normal. I'm close to 14 activities less than last month. I went from running 3 times a week to barely 2, my biking has really ramped down (I haven't been on my back since the Saturday before last), and I haven't done any lunchtime walks or evening walks with Maya. All the while my appetite is going through the roof! Sadly I didn't even notice the change all that much until I looked at the numbers. I then jumped on the scale... yeah...I need to be more focused.
Anywhoodles, gotta run!
Ciao!

Afternoon, Happy Friday! How's today going for you? Sorry, I'm late! today has kept me busy thus far. Things have slowed up enough I could sneak away for a minute. So I got that run in finally! As soon as I got home I got changed and out the door I went. I managed 5k in 31 min and change. I held a 6:11 min/km pace which was a little disappointing. I started out strong but just over 1k in I got a NASTY stitch in my right side that had me slow things down until approx. 3rd-4th km. It was weird if I kept myself around 6:30 min/km the stitch was virtually gone. If I went faster than that it would come back with a vengeance. Oh well. I got it done and that's all that matters really. This morning I figured it meant more to lay and snuggle with Maya than train, she had a rough sleep and I figured she could use some snuggies Gotta fly, 2 more hours and the weekend begins! Have a good one!

Mernin' *yawn*
Happy Monday, hope your weekend went well.
So I did it!!! I actually did it! I managed 21.1 km!!! A half marathon in the bag! BOOM! I held an average of 7:31min/km (which was about 2.5 hours). I made sure I was well prepared. I had my Camelbak style backpack with water, tights on under the shorts to minimize chaffing, wallet in the bag, phone/watch/headphones charged, and I headed out early when it was cooler (15C). The cool weather and the water made a HUUUUUUGE difference. I didn't fade out at any point. I made sure before leaving I had a couple of sips of coffee, 3 big pickles, water w/ electrolytes, and my running playlist ready on my phone (90's alternative).
I kept things nice and slow off the start and once I felt nice and warmed up (around 5k) I start to increase speed. At one point I was doing in the high 5's per km. I made sure to pull off the gas when I felt I was getting too quick. There were a few points during my run I took a timed 3 min walk break (I took one at km 10, km 15, and then km 18-ish). This strategy worked really well in my opinion.
Once I was done the 21.1km I still had another 2 km to get home. So I stopped my watch, saved, and started it again for the victory walk home... the last .5km I allowed my inner 18 year old to get the better of me and I ran the remainder. A final "eff you" to this challenge. It has gotten the better of me twice so it was nice to have the final say.
It didn't end there, after a shower, food, and some couch time, Maya and I went for another 3 km walk. 1.5 km of it was done completely barefoot (don't ask).
Today I'm stiff/sore, my lower back, knees, ankles, feet. To be expected I'm sure. But nothing that is crippling, my first few steps are a little gimpy but it gets better after that.
Ok, it's month-end which means crazytown here at work.
Time to fly,
Ciao!

Thanks guys for the congratulations!
(Hi by the way)
Today I'm feeling pretty much back to normal. I did a 2 km walk on lunch yesterday as active recovery as well as one today, I feel they helped a lot.
To answer your question Mac, I have actually. I do run in minimal toe shoes and I have considered transitioning to barefoot for a 5k.
