I did an easy 5k this morning. I debated doing the 7 mile loop to help me reach my monthly mileage but decided it is better to have a few shorter runs mixed in. I am ok if I don't reach my goal this month. I knew with the vacation it would be difficult. I will still end up over 120 miles this month.
3.11 miles in 29:45 for an avg pace of 9:35

I hate when they change an application, thinking "This will be better." Apple did something similar with the watch recently that moved the virtual "button" to lock the screen off of the screen where you pause/stop a workout. So now you have to navigate three screens away to lock the watch using a combination of the physical buttons instead of just swiping right to access the controls. Which is hard to try and do while riding. Oh well... we will adjust to the new systems and forget the change ever happened... there is little chance they are going to go back to the old way of doing things.

Things got a little busy here this past week.
First there was a shit load of yard work to get caught up on. Before vacation we had gotten a lot of rain and my yard had standing water which kept me from mowing before leaving on vacation. I started mowing tuesday at lunch and after work with my blades raised as high as they could go. I mowed again on Wed with the blades on the normal level. After work Thursday my wife sent me to Lowes and the grocery store to pick up stuff. On Friday I did the weed whacking along the fence and curb and edged the sidewalk.
The grocery store trip was to pick up a few things for our dinner party last night. We hosted our NJ wine group. My wife had picked up most of the stuff at Costco but there were a few items we just needed a small quantity of and not a lifetime supply. Yesterday I had to take apart on of our couches and set up the two tables and chairs in the family room. I had done the other when my wife hosted her golf league and never put it back together. I also vacuumed the downstairs and cleaned then powder room. Part of siding on the front of our house that is shaded was really green with mold / mildew so I got the pressure washer out and washed the front of the house. My contribution to dinner was to smoke a pork shoulder and make coleslaw. My wife handled the rest of the dinner.
This morning I got and did all of the hand wash dishes which was most of the fine china plates that we used. We have two sets of china one from my wife's grandmother and one from my mother but they need to be handwashed. After doing the dishes I had to take down the table and chairs and put them in the basement and move the couches pieces back into the room and put them back together. It was after 10:30 by the time I was done.
In addition to the wine dinner last night, we are the hosts for the our Bucks County dining club dinner tonight. At least that is at a restaurant and all we have to do is collect the cash and pay.
On Thursday afternoon my boss gave me something that needed to be done by Friday. Just a little icing on the cake of everything else going on.
On thursday pm my digestive system started acting up. I had to run to the bathroom right after dinner while I was still putting the leftovers away. On Friday and yesterday I had to go to the bathroom several times through out the day. For some reason I didn't want to take Pepto. This morning when I woke up it was still bothering me and might have been getting worse so I have started taking Pepto.
In fitness news I did a 5k on Friday and yesterday. It was almost noon today when I was finally able to get out for my run. My original training plan had me doing a 15 mile trail run as my final long trail run before my race. When I put the plan together I didn't realize this was the weekend we would be hosting or wine tasting dinner. I hadn't even factored in our vacation which was planned last summer. Anyways I made the decision to cut my run way short. I ended up doing a streak keeper. This one will count against the 12 no excuse needed streak keepers.
I'm hoping next week returns to normal.

Geez, I'm tired just reading about how busy you've been. Hope you're feeling better soon and kudos for keeping your impressive streak alive. Thanks. I knew I wasn't going to hit 140 miles this month but I was surprised that I didn't even reach 120 miles. Even more surprising was that I had signed up for a 15k challenge on Garmin and didn't complete it this month. My longest run this month was the 7 1/2 mile loop that I run all the time. I pretty much knew I wouldn't do a long run the two weekends I was on vacation but didn't plan on not doing a long run the other two weekends. It just worked out that way. The first weekend I was late getting to the trail for my run and had several technical issues so didn't do the full 13 miles and this past weekend I ended up with a streak keeper. Yesterday I was thinking about doing enough miles before work to reach 120 miles and to get the 15k challenge complete. Yesterday afternoon my client scheduled an early morning meeting. It had to be in the morning since it was with the Germans and would be the end of their work day. That made it unreasonable for me to do a long run this morning. I just did the 7 1/2 mile run. I even cut that a little short. Normally I would run the extra few yards to make it an even 7 1/2 but I stopped at my driveway today. Garmin stats are 7.38 miles in 1:11:29 for an avg pace of 9:41. Monthly stats are 117.10 miles. 4 streak keepers - 3 travel days and 1 of my 12 "free" ones. I also did about 15 - 20 miles of hiking while on vacation which is time on my feet.

I ran the same loop as yesterday just in the counterclockwise direction. Yesterday I ran it clockwise. I did the extra few feet at the end to make it an even 7.5 miles. Yesterday I was a little surprised that it wasn't 7.5 miles. Today, as I ran past the Dunkin Donut shop, I realized that I would almost make the detour to use their bathroom. I didn't need to do that yesterday or today probably since it is not cold outside. Anyways that must have added the extra distance to make the run 7.5 miles not 7.3.
Garmin stats are 7.5 miles in 1:14:36 for an avg pace of 9:57.
I must have used some of my karma points yesterday. On Monday my wife mentioned she wanted to make pizza tonight. That means I had to start the dough last night. She told me to write myself a note so I wouldn't forget. She didn't tell me to write myself a note to remember to write myself a note. (we were outside at the time with nothing to write on). Last night after mowing the yard and having dinner I sat down to watch tv. One of they youtubers I watch had recently posted a video about making pizza from scratch which popped up on the recommended list. That was my reminder to get up and go make the dough. Had she not posted that video I would not have remembered to make the dough and would have been in trouble.

The side of the road you are running on might make the difference... shorter distance in the turns.

I posted yesterday's run on IG / FB but never got around to posting here. I just did my normal 5k before going to the office. It was barefootcrew 5k Thursday which is why I posted it to IG. They are trying to get that going again this year. It kinda fell apart sometime last year. I'm hoping they start posting the summaries again. I found it interesting to see how many people from so many different countries including Iran and a couple of the "stans" participated each week. Stats for yesterday was 3.1 miles in 29:37 for an avg pace of 9:33. Avg HR was 140 with a training effect of 3.0. As I was packing for my trip to RB I found my chest strap. I thought I had left it in RB but it was in my weekend duffle bag.
Last night we went to dinner with friends in NJ. It was a nice dinner. The one lady is my friend with MS. At one point she bumped the joystick on her wheelchair and went under the table lifting it up. Fortunately it was before we had food and no wine was spilled. She was a little embarrassed and apologetic. She had forgotten to turn the chair off so that wouldn't happen. I found it funny as it is something that I would do but probably would haven't caught it before flipping the table over. Yes I am a klutz.
Since we had dinner plans, we woke up early and drove down to RB this morning. We drove separately as my wife will be going to her father's on Monday while I take the dog home and go to the office. I was planning on waking up at 5:30 and getting on the road around 6 but I woke up a little before 5. I figured I would either just lay awake or if I fell asleep I would oversleep so I got up packed the cooler, made coffee and got on the road.
Since I came down this morning I ran at lunch. It is cold here especially considering it was in the 80's yesterday in NJ and here. Today it is 50 here and the wind is coming off the water. The feels like temp at noon was 44 so I wore long pants and long sleeves for my run. Garmin shows a 17 mph wind coming off of the ocean. When it would bounce off of the high rise hotels it felt like it was going to move me backwards or sideways.
Garmin stats for today are 3.19 miles in 30:39 for an avg pace of 9:36.

I went out for an easy pace 12 miler this morning. I felt good but it was a flat 12 miles. I just need to do that 2 more times plus a couple of extra miles in a few weeks. I think the biggest issue will be fueling. As a test today I had a sausage egg and cheese on a croissant breakfast sandwich right before leaving. That seemed fine. However when I would have the peeps during the run I would have to burp a few minutes later. I wasn't nauseous but I still was leery of them sort of like the mantra of not trusting a fart while running. TMI sorry. Jelly beans seem to work fine too. This week and next weekend I am going to experiment with a pbj sandwich. For 10 to 12 hours I don't want to only eat sugar. I want to get some protein and fat. I'm thinking of keeping the sandwiches at the start area and having one between each section to get me some real food during the day. I may end up with nothing but sugar by the afternoon but I want options.
I started off dressed the way I was yesterday but it wasn't as windy so I was too warm. I was running on the bike path in the woods which helped block the wind. I stopped and took off the long pants, outer top, and gloves. I still had on a thin long sleeve shirt. I was fine until I reached Lewes around mile 5 when I was out of the woods and running into the wind. My hands got pretty cold. At the turnaround point I refilled my water bottle and put my gloves on. I debated putting my outer top back on but decided it may be too warm. Once back in the woods I had to take my gloves off again.
Overall it was a good run and it boosted my confidence. I still cant believe that my longest run last month was only 7.5 miles. I should have had an 18 to 20 miler. Oh well I will still show up to the race on the 18th and I wont quit. I would rather dnf by missing the cutoff time then to quit before it.
Garmin stats are 12.00 miles in 2:10:25 for an avg pace of 10:52. I forgot to put my chest strap on so no HR data.

We got massages yesterday. She said where my IT band connects to the hip was really tight especially on the right hip. I think that was why my form had been off lately. It felt better today.
We went to dinner last night at an Indian restaurant in Lewes. It is really good. I had the dumpukht Cornish hen and really enjoyed it. My wife wouldn't normally eat Indian food but her friend really likes this place and wanted to eat there. I guess she eats there frequently enough that the chef owner knows her by name. WE got home a little after 9 and I pretty much went straight to bed.
This morning I got up and went for my 6 mile run while charging the car. I started off with the outer warmer shirt and a tech shirt and shorts. After 1 mile I was warm so I took the outer layer off. Once I reached the boardwalk the wind was coming off of the water so the shirt went back on. Again I took if off once I left the boardwalk.
Garmin stats are 6.07 miles in 57:21 for an avg pace of 9:27. Avg HR was 137 with a training effect of 2.6.

How did your wife like the Indian food? I sort of feel the same the about Indian food. I like the Indian bread (Naan) and the Tandoori chicken, but too many sauces, and too many things mixed together for my taste. 12 miles. Nice.
