As I was packing this morning I found that the dress shoes that I wear with my tux had disintegrated. They were patent leather with the fake shine and that is what had peeled off. I hadn't worn them in a couple of years. I had to stop on my way here to buy a new pair. I prefer to wear wing tipped oxfords with my tux but could only find a cap toe. These do not have the fake shine so I can polish them and hopefully they will last longer. I've also had the shoe disintegration problem. Although I should wear shoes to work one day a week (the day that I go to work that isn't a dress-down day) in practice, I wear a clean fairly smart pair of trainers/sneakers. It's not been an issue, probably because my manger also wears trainers to the office. My shoes are in the bottom drawer of my desk in case I should ever need them and when I opened the drawer recently the leather had dried out and cracked. I bought them not long before Covid and they have hardly even been worn. I'll need another pair for an event I'll be attending shortly. I'll write about that up-coming event in my journal.

Yesterday was a fun day. We had two wine tastings in the afternoon then dinner. After dinner we gathered in the room by the fireplace to share wines. There were some pretty incredible wines. One new couple brought a vertical tasting of Joseph Phelps Insignia - they had the 1998, 1999, and 2001 vintages. All three were drinking perfectly. The current vintage of that wines sells for $200 or so. To buy an older vintage would be significantly more. So this couple shared over $1000 worth of wine with us. There were other wines which were just as expensive. I'm the poor person so my wine was ONLY $50 or so. Evidently my wine is a favorite of this one lady. She had decided not to come down but when her husband saw my wine he called her. She got dressed and came down for it. Several people told me it was a good choice and how much they like that producer. There have been years my wine was not so well received. While the wines were great catching up with friends that I haven't seen for a few years was even better.
This morning we started with sabering champagne. After that we did two tastings then had the mystery meal which is always fun. The second course was a yak slider. No one got the protein correct even though it was multiple choice. I'm guessing most tables went with Bison like my table. You submit the answers by one per table. Tonight is the black tie gala so I will be putting on my tux soon. After the gala is the port party. I have a 1994 Smith Woodhouse vintage port to bring. I forgot my decanter so I had to run to target this afternoon and buy one.
We were up until after midnight sharing the wines. Once back to my room I had to unwind for a few minutes before I went to bed so it was 1 am when I went to bed. Even so I was up at 6:30 had my coffee and then did my 5k run on the boardwalk. I was ready to turn around if anything felt off but everything was good so I did the full 5k.
Garmin stats are 3.2 miles in 28:48 for an avg pace of 9:00.

Why didn't you just go barefoot to the black tie dinner?

Why didn't you just go barefoot to the black tie dinner? It did cross my mind. The dinner was really nice. There were 7 courses plus the intermezzo. The port party was fun. I left at 1:20 and went to bed. There were still people there. I'm not sure how late they stayed. I woke up and had my coffee. After 2 late nights and early mornings I was fairly tired so I decided to just do a streak keeper. It was raining really hard so I used the hotel treadmill. My legs are feeling better so I thinking of running my 7 mile loop tomorrow.

We were at friend's house for dinner last night and didn't get home until 1 am. I slept in until a little after 7. That made 3 nights with 6 hours or less of sleep. Based on that I decided to only run a 5k. It is still really windy here and chilly with temps right around freezing so that meant a treadmill run.
A week or two ago I had started using a 1% incline as my base. I was feeling pretty good so I decided to do some hill work after the 1st mile at 1%. I did a 1/4 each at 6%, 5%, 4%, 6%, 4%, 3%, 2%, 0%. I stayed at the 0% until I reached the 5k point. The treadmill was at a 10 min pace.
Garmin stats are 3.11 miles in 31:31.

I'm on my way to Cleveland this morning for work. Last night. I thought about not having coffee before my run and running a 5k. I figured I could have my coffee on the way to the airport. When I woke up still tired from 3 late nights over the weekend I realized I would need coffee first. After that I only had time for a steak keeper. While I have taken more steak keepers this month than planned, most were injury related - either the blisters or the legs. Today falls under the travel exemption so my only non exempt one was Saturday.
Garmin stats is 1.01 miles in 10:03

Safe travels. Have you run in Ohio before?

Safe travels. Have you run in Ohio before? Thanks. I have not run in Ohio before. My previous trips to Columbus and Cincinnati were before I started running. Yesterday (Tuesday) it was raining so I ran on the treadmill. I used a 10 min pace and did hills just increasing the incline until I maxed out at 10%. I then brought it lowers it for my cool down. I ran for 30 minutes. It was raining again this morning so it was another treadmill run. I made today an easy day and kept the pace at 10 and the incline at 1%. I again ran for 30 minutes.

Another rainy morning and another 3.1 miles on the treadmill. At the hotel I was able to run 3.1 miles in 30 minutes. At home I had to run f0r 31 minutes to hit 3.1 miles. Both were set to the same pace. The hotel treadmill had 3 miles in 30 minutes and my watch had 3.1 which means I was running a little faster at the hotel. I don't know what if anything this means but I found it interesting especially since both days on the hotel was the exact same at 3.11 miles in 30:00 even.

Finally able to get outside to run. I was able to get finished before the wind really picked up though it was starting to pick up the last 1/2 mile or so. Now it is really windy here. It was in the upper 30's when I left for my run but I chose to run barefoot anyways. We didn't bring my wife's car this time so I was able to start at our condo and not the charging station. this gives me an extra mile at the ocean. Garmin stats are 6.25 miles in 57:13 for an avg pace of 9:10.

I got the new straps put on my sandals so I wanted to try them out. I ran 3.5 miles to Gordon's Pond barefoot then put my sandals on to run to Cape Henlopen on the gravel bike path. Once in Cape Henlopen I ran on the short path through the woods then turned around. I took the sandals off once I got back to Rehoboth and was on the roads again. THe straps were comfortable and I have no sore spots.
It was warm enough for shorts. I had a short sleeve and long sleeve on. I figured I would take off the long sleeve as it warmed up but I ended up just pushing the sleeves up. Everytime I was running into the wind, I would have to pull the sleeves down. I noticed all the bikers had jackets on and most of the runners had long sleeves either up or down. It is supposed to be in the upper 50s but that wind off the ocean is chilly.
I chose not to hit pause when I stopped to either drink water, eat jelly beans, put on / take off my sandals or take pictures. Garmin had 14.00 miles in 2:32:28 for an avg pace of 10:53. My avg moving pace was 10:04 and the range of my splits when I didn't stop was between 9:20 and 8:58. I had one split of 15:07 for pictures and the footwear change was 12:41 and 12:11. A little faster to remove them than to put them on. This is a flat route so I am thinking I will be between 13 and 15 min miles during my run in May. That would put me between 9 and 10 hours overall. There is a 12 hour time limit so if I don't take too long on my pit stops I will be ok.

Nice run and I'm glad the new straps are working out for you. Thanks. I was a little sore yesterday afternoon when we took the dog out for his 2 mile walk. After that we cleaned, packed up, and drove home. Once here we stopped to get a pizza for dinner. I could barely get out of the car and walk in to get the food. I had a good night sleep and woke up feeling better. I did my rolling and mobility stuff. I had stopped doing in when I was in the hotels but did do it yesterday before my run too. After that I headed out for my Easter Sunday run. For those that follow me on IG or FB, there will be pictures of the various trees in bloom. Around mile 4 I switched to my B52's channel on Pandorra. This channel has a lot of songs with fast tempos which is great for running. When the Bangles hit came on I would mimic the video while running during the chorus "walk like an Egyptian". Several cars went by and for once they gave me plenty of space. The final two songs were Siouxsie and the Banshees "Cities in Dust" and Talking Heads "Burning Down the House". These had me finish strong averaging just under a 9 minute pace for the last 1.5 miles. Garmin stats are 7.5 miles in 1:11:48 for an average pace of 9:34.

You are killing it. I've been listening to more upbeat music during my walks and I notice an increase in tempo as well.

You are killing it. I've been listening to more upbeat music during my walks and I notice an increase in tempo as well. Thanks. I really do notice a difference on what music I am playing. If I really want an easy run I need to keep the music on country. If I have it on heavy metal or punk, my pace picks up to match the tempo. I started off with rolling and mobility stuff. It was raining yet again so I got on the treadmill. My legs felt heavy and tired so I debated stopping at 1 mile but decided to push through. I was thinking that by mile two I would feel better but that didn't happen so I stopped at mile 2. It wasn't the 5k that I planned but it wasn't a 1 and done either. Some days are like that. Garmin had 2.02 miles in 20:02 for an avg pace of 9:56. The treadmill had 2.00 miles in 20:01.
