Thurs - 9/02. In my immediate area, I think we missed the a lot of the rain. It started raining about 5:00 pm, and I didn't hear it raining particularly hard. It didn't see any branches or anything this morning which would indicate a lot of rain. But when I was driving to the gym about 5:30 am, I get to a stop light in the next town, and the stop light is blinking, and there are about 10 cars, no accident happened, just cars in the driving lanes, but no people. It was like an episode of the Twilight Zone. Many roads were closed, and other places I just saw cars in the road like before, no people. I should say I didn't watch the news beforehand, and was planning on going to NYC after the gym.
The gym is open, I get my workout done, and I am just about to walk out of the sauna, and the guy who works there tells me the gym is closing, you have to leave now. I said I will take a 2 minute shower, and I will leave right after. The strange thing is he said they are closing due to the water pipes, but there was water in the shower, water in the water fountain? He said they are reopening at 3:00 pm. I had perfect timing, as I was done anyway. Yesterday perfect timing too. I didn't think I would get the steps in yesterday, but it didn't start raining until 5:00 pm. Today I ended up working remotely, since there was no bus or train service to NY. The news said this area got between 6 - 8 inches of rain in my area, other places in NJ got over 12 inches. I don't think where I live we even got 3 inches.

Thank you. Yesterday's steps: 20291; w-t-d: 21889; m-t-d: 20291; y-t-d: 17259 Gym (yesterday): shoulder training; 60 treadmill (30 before lifting; 30 after); 25 sauna Friday - 9/03. It turns out Chick Fil A has a rewards program, which I was unaware of. I have enough rewards to get one free sandwich, which I am going to get probably tomorrow. If it was a free sandwich at McDonalds or Burger King, I would pass. But I love Chick Fil A, so I can't turn that down. So my days of becoming a vegetarian will not start until Sunday. As long as my last day is no later than Labor day, I am fine with that. TGIF. Sun - 9/05. Tomorrow will be 1/2 year of only buying vegetables, fruit, seeds, grains, spices. Only 16 exceptions in 6 months, a pretty good record. Even the exceptions were not too bad, pretzels, Boca burgers, apple sauce, dark chocolate etc. It just shows what a food hoarder I am, since I am still eating items bought before that time. Eventually I will finish those other foods. Nothing I have left is really terrible, things like pasta, pasta sauce etc. I hope to finish all of the cheese I have left by the end of Oct. Also, 90 days of intermittent fasting, though to be honest, the last 2 days I haven't kept track. Though I know that yesterday I didn't eat anything until 1:00 pm, but not exactly sure of when the last food I ate was. Yesterday I did eat a Chick Fil A sandwich, so my new start date for being vegetarian is today. Happy Labor Day weekend.

Mon - 9/06. Two home issues. The heater clicked on, and it started to make a loud sound. Tomorrow morning I need to call the heating repair man. I recorded the sound on my phone, in case it does not make the sound when the repairman comes. I want to get that taken care of before it starts to get cold. Next I have a drain problem. About 2 weeks ago, I leave my house out the front door, and it smells really bad. I notice the cover on the sewer drain pipe became dislodged, and that is what is causing the smell. I put the cover back on, thinking my problem is solved. I shouldn't have been so quick to pat myself on the back. Saturday, I have the washing machine on. When the water is leaving the washing machine, I start to hear the sound of air pockets coming from the toilet, which I think is strange (never heard that before). Next there is sewage flowing into the bathtub and shower (really disgusting, but luckily not that much). I look outside, and the sewer cover has become dislodged again, and this time water is flowing out from the drain pipe outside. It looked like the water emptying from the washing machine. I look this up on youtube, and most likely the main sewer line has a blockage. I already have insurance to protect the water pipes outside (neighbor across the street had a water pipe problem, and cost over 5K to repair, which is why I bought the insurance). I see the same company also offers sewer pipe insurance, but there is a 30 day waiting period. I am going to buy that and then call them in 31 days. On youtube, it said the repair to unblock could be expensive. It might be due to tree roots. I don't know if the insurance is a scam, but I am going to try. At the very least, if I find it is a scam, I will cancel the water pipe insurance I already have. For a month, I won't be using the washing machine, the dishwasher, and only showering at the gym. The toilets work. Not easy being a homeowner.

Sewer problems are not fun. There is a chance that the problem is on the sewer authority's side of the line and not yours. If so, you would not be responsible. One way to determine that is to see if any of your neighbors are having similar issues. If so, then the sewer main is plugged if not then it would be your line. Good luck.

One way to determine that is to see if any of your neighbors are having similar issues. If so, then the sewer main is plugged if not then it would be your line. Good luck. Thank you. Not that this changes anything, but I was thinking maybe it has something to do with all of the rain we have had. Two times in a month, we had over 6 inches of rain in each of those 2 days. Yesterday's steps: 21210; w-t-d: 21398; m-t-d: 21013; y-t-d: 17325 Gym (yesterday): arm training; 85 treadmill (65 before; 20 after lifting); 25 sauna Tues - 9/07. Rest day from gym today. Yesterday I ran for roughly 60% of the time on the treadmill. For the rest of the day, I was beyond tired. I don't know if it was related, but while I feel back to normal today, I thought it would be a good idea to take a rest day. In the building I work in, there is a restaurant called "Sweet Green" at the base. Before the pandemic, there was always a line out the door (mostly 20 somethings, not one with even an excess pound of fat). It is pretty expensive, probably most spend $15.00 - $20.00 for a salad. It is mostly takeout. I think they are national chain, or becoming national. The guy who created Shake Shack is a big investor. I went to a different one this weekend, it is mostly salads (though not all vegan), and I was still hungry when I was done eating. I could have gone to another restaurant right after and ate a full meal. I wouldn't go back there again, not my type of restaurant. Yesterday's steps: 21386; w-t-d: 21395; m-t-d: 21066; y-t-d: 17342 Gym (yesterday): rest day Weds - 9/08. Uncharacteristically, given my usual slow pace, the heater is already repaired. First he comes, and the heater doesn't make the sound. Then I play for him what I recorded on my phone, and he shows me you just have to jiggle something in the heater. He is closing the heater door after he shows me, and the heater starts making the sound. He jiggles it, still makes the sound. He ends up replacing the part, costing $585. I thought that was a lot, but he told me he replaced the same part before. I checked, and in 2017, it cost $575. So at least I didn't feel like I was cheated, unless I was cheated both times. He said it was unusual that the part would only last a few years. He recommended replacing the circulator, which would be another $850. I am on the fence about that, since it was working last winter, and I assume it would work this winter. But on the other hand, the boiler is over 30 years old. The $850 would be worth the peace of mind not having to worry about the heater breaking down in the winter. But who knows if maybe the original part would last longer than the part he replaces it with. I also enrolled in the sewer line coverage for the sewer problem. I was paying $8.51 monthly for just the water line. Now for both the water line, and the sewer line, the combined cost is $7.46 monthly. The first year is 1/2 price. I have my doubts if this is valid insurance, and might be scam, like the auto warranty coverage that they frequently advertise on tv & through robocalls (which is definitely a scam). I will find out in 30 days when I call to use the service. Yesterday's steps: 21814; w-t-d: 21479; m-t-d: 21159; y-t-d: 17359 Gym (yesterday): back training; 70 treadmill (35 before; 35 after lifting); 25 sauna Thurs - 9/09. This is my first time commuting since Tuesday of last week. So far I have 8K steps, mostly from the gym this morning. I am on a streak of (19) 20K+days, which may or may not end today. It depends on how much it rains today. It used to be a breeze for me to sit in the sauna for 25 minutes. The 5 minutes going from 25-30 would feel like an extra 30 minutes. Now, 25 feels hard to do. I get to 15 minutes, and the last 10 minutes feels like it takes forever. The light is not good enough to read, and I don't bring my phone or Ipod in the sauna. 192 degrees (what it was today) can't be good for either device. But virtually everyone who walks in that sauna, is carrying their phone. But few stay in as long as I do. Many go in the sauna before working out, and are there for less than 10 minutes. Today someone asks me if I know if it is okay for him to bring his phone in the sauna. I tell him I don't, most do. Then he asks if he needs to take off the chain he is wearing. I say I don't know, but after 2 minutes it starts to get very hot, and then he removes it. Then he asks me if this is hotter than the desert. I wanted to say it depends on which desert, but I told him the sauna is hotter. In less than 5 minutes, he was out of there. I think in order to get the health benefits of the sauna, you need to spend at least 15 minutes, but I don't know that for a fact. Friday - 9/10. I didn't walk at lunch time, when I got home, I had 12K steps. I was going to skip walking to reach 20K (streaks don't go on forever), but more than the streak, if I couldn't get myself to walk for a little over an hour last night (weather was perfect for walking), what does it say about how much I really want to lose weight. So I did walk, and once I got to 20K, I decided to try to reach the goal that is set on the Garmin watch, which yesterday was 21450. Today is 21470. I woke up this morning really tired, so decided to take a rest day from gym. So far today, I have under 3K steps. Hopefully when I leave NY today, I will have at least 10K. TGIF.

Yesterday I made spinach lasagna, in my continuing quest to rid my house of non vegan food (without throwing it out). I haven't made spinach lasagna in a long time, and I used to think it was one of the healthiest foods in my diet, it does have spinach. It also has a ton of cheese, but I used to think it was healthy because I used to buy the part skim ricotta and mozzarella. I had the container of ricotta in my hand to see the nutrition content. I put it back in the refrigerator. Right after I put the lasagna in the oven, I realized I forgot to put in the ricotta cheese, which should have been mixed with the spinach & egg. It was too late at that point, so I made it without the ricotta. It of course didn't taste the same, but it wasn't bad. Splitting it in 6 servings, each is roughly 750 calories. With the ricotta, each serving would have been about 1150 calories. But now I have to make it again an extra time, to use the ricotta. Probably by the end of October, I will be done with the cheese that I still have in my house. That is the main reason the saturated fat is high in the nutrition numbers below. Tues - 9/14. I've have been feeling very tired day in and day out for quite a while. I googled vitamin deficiencies that make you feel tired, what came up most was D3 & B12. I already take a vitamin D3 supplement, since you get that from being in the sun, and I am not in the sun long enough to get an adequate supply. They said many people are also deficent in B12, especially vegetarians and vegans. While I haven't been a vegetarian long, I have cut way back on animal products during the last year, which are the main sources of B12. They also fortify breakfast cereals with vitamin B12, but I don't eat breakfast cereal. After reading the symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency, I have some of them. The first as I mentioned is feeling fatiqued. I also frequently have a feeling of pins & needles at the bottom of my feet. Another symptom is a feeling of dizziness, which I had been feeling sometimes, I had blamed that on the blood pressure medication. Also, problems with balance and cooridination. Just yesterday, I almost fell twice. So I started taking B12 each morning. You don't swallow it like other pills, first you put it under your tongue for 30 seconds, then swallow the remaining pill. Hopefully that will do the trick.
