Run Streak Day 50:
6 mile run outdoors. I did my usual mile boardwalk run but added an extra mile on the boardwalk. Stats are 6.01 miles in 54:34 for an average pace of 9:04. Splits were 9:32, 8:54, 8:51, 8:53, 8:59,9:18. I had to wait for traffic to cross some streets in the last two miles so I think my pace was closer to the others. Training effect was 3.7.
We are having friends over for dinner tonight. Originally we were going to do a flank steak with a chimichurri sauce served in a bed of lettuce and with fingerling potatoes. When we got to the store they had a "slab" of New York strip on sale for 6.99. The catch was you had to buy either a half slab or a full slab. We bought a half slab about 3.5 pounds untrimmed. They trimmed it and cut it into steaks. So we will substitute the new strips for the flank steak.

Dinner was a lot of fun but it was a late night.
Run Streak Day 51
An easy 3 miler today. I did a 3 mile loop through the neighborhood. I used to run that loop a lot but now I usually run on the boardwalk or bike path. It ended up being more than 3 miles since I had to return home shortly after starting for a restroom break.
Per Garmin, 3.36 miles in 34:43 for an average pace of 10:20. Training effect was 2.6.
We are meeting the same friends today for lunch. We are going to the $12 whole Maine lobster lunch special.

I had a massage yesterday afternoon. I felt great yesterday but the calf's were sore today.
I woke up a little after 4 to drive home from Rehoboth before work. There was not time to run this morning so I ran after work. Since I was tired and had sore calf's, I decided to run the minimum 1 mile to keep the streak alive
Run Streak Day 52
I ran 1 mile in the treadmill at a 10 min pace. Garmin agreed. I wore my cheststrap but I guess it never connected because there is no data from it.

So I tried posting some pictures and it didn't come through. I used the insert image and copied the url from google photo's but it didn't work. I had luck putting my pics on Google Photos, getting a shareable link from Google, putting that link into this site - ctrlq.org/google/photos/ - and usung the link it generates. Not the most straightforward process, but it works.

I had luck putting my pics on Google Photos, getting a shareable link from Google, putting that link into this site - ctrlq.org/google/photos/ - and usung the link it generates. Not the most straightforward process, but it works. Thanks, I'll try that. At the end of my massage on Sunday the masseuse recommended that I do isolation exercises for the quads and hamstrings - and I quote - "so that they learn that they are different muscle groups". I have been told by doctors and PT's that I am hamstring dominant and quad weak. I decided to switch out the lunges and single leg deadlifts and use the leg attachment on my bench. Warm-up was prep drill and hip mobility with rubber bands. Then I supersetted leg extensions / bench and hamstring curls / db rows. During the db row, my right shoulder started hurting so I skipped the last set of rows and skipped the ohp. Run Streak Day 53. I set the treadmill at 9:22 and ran a little over 3 miles. My garmin was tracking slower so I stopped when the garmin hit 3 miles. The chest strap worked today so I have no clue why it didnt yesterday. Per garmin, 3.00 miles in 28:39 for an average pace of 9;32. Training effect was 1.9.

The issue I felt while rowing yesterday turned into "I can't turn my head to the right" by the end of the day. It was still sore and stiff this morning. Our dog has been sleeping with us since the other dog passed away last fall. Last night he kept kicking me in the lower back (his legs were twitching severely). I don't know if it was that or is related to the issue with my neck but my lower back was stiff this morning. Because of both of those issues I decided to take it easy today and not due the 6 mile with speed work run that was planned.
Run streak Day 53:
I did 1 mile on the treadmill at an 11'ish min pace. Per garmin 1.06 miles in 11:14 for an average pace of 10:38.

Hi macdiver. Hope you're finding it useful posting here. I was/am hoping to see some other JSF posters here. Do you think the site is fine in it's present form? If so, thinking of messaging John and seeing if he's happy for me to post a link to the site and possibly PM some of the more recent (the last year perhaps) posters in the hope that they can save their journals if needed and perhaps post here if they wish. Yes, I am glad you set this forum up. So far I have found no issues. I plan on trying to post a photo today or tomorrow to test that feature. My only suggestion would be an option for a dark theme if possible. I find dark themes look better and use less battery on my phone. Hi macdiver, You might want to look at this link: www.proboards.com/user-guide/profile-preferences/forum-themeYou should be able to change the theme by following the instructions to one called PB Default - Dark + Let me know if it's any good. Run Streak Day 55
3 mile run on the treadmill at a 9:22 pace. Per Garmin, 3.01 miles in 28:29 for an average pace of 9:28.
I didn't do strength training this morning to let the neck rest. I did my hip exercises after my run.

How do you post the photo for the avatar? The standard one looks creepy.
Is that a current photo? You look like a teenager.

How do you post the photo for the avatar? The standard one looks creepy. Agreed. The default avatar is weird. Looks like One Punch Man. You can change your avatar by clicking the Profile tab up top, clicking the Edit Profile button on the resulting screen, and uploading an avatar to the site (i.e. you don't have to have a photo hosted somewhere and link to it - although you can do that too if you want).

That photo was taken at Fort Monmouth, NJ in the late summer of 1984. I was 18 years old. At that time I would routinely run 10 miles in under an hour. Around the time of the photo, I had just run the Army 2 mile test in under 10 minutes. In the picture, I am wearing my army running clothes. I chose that picture to help keep me motivated with running this year.

I should have worn my watch to bed last night and tracked my sleep. I went to bed at my normal time but woke up around 2. After that I would fall asleep, wake up and look at the clock to see that only a few minutes had passed. Finally fell back to sleep and when I woke up it was 6 am. I had to cut my planned 6 miler to a little over 3 miles.
Run Streak Day 56
The original plan was to run 1 mile @ 9:22, 1 mile @ 8:30, 2 miles @ 8, 1 mile @ 8:30 and 1 mile @ 9:22. I ended up running 3/4 mile @ 9:22, 1/2 mile @ 8:30, 2 miles @ 8. I stopped my garmin after the 2 miles @ 8 which was 3.25 miles total per the treadmill. I then walked for 1/4 mile on the treadmill as my cooldown. I'll have to add my garmin stats later. I see now that it didn't upload to my phone after my run.

I never knew you were so fast. 5 minute mile is incredible.

I never knew you were so fast. 5 minute mile is incredible. Thanks. Right after I turned 19, I had major knee surgery and basically quit running. When I started running again 10 years ago, I had slowed significantly. I woke up and took care of some work. After that it was still in the 20's so I figured I would take care of some things then run before lunch when it should be warmer. I had 2 TV's to hang. I figured an hour each. Nope. Around 1:30 I stopped for lunch. It was after 3 by the time I was done and had put everything away and cleaned up. We took the dog downtown for a walk around 4. It was around 5 when I got out for my run. The good thing about a streak is there isn't a choice not to run just a choice of when and how far. My plan was 6 miles today, 12 tomorrow and 3 on Monday. I did 3 today so I will do 6 on Monday. Run Streak Day 57 I went to the boardwalk. When walking the dog I noticed the wind was from the south so I started at the North end so I would finish with the wind to my back. Garmin stats are 3.09 miles in 27:33 for an average pace of 8:54. Training effect was 3.1.
