Week 1 (Apr 1-7): 169.5 lbs @ 17.1% BF (28.9), 131/80 BP, 63 HR, 164.2 BS, 7.43 sleep (:31 deep) Week 2 (Apr 8-14): 168.6 lbs @ 16.7% BF (28.2), 121/79 BP, 62 HR, 146.8 BS, 7.30 sleep (:40 deep)
I think I miscounted my pushups on Friday... actually I think I missed a set, so my total wasn't 200. I'm going to repeat this past week's workouts anyway... I want to work on bringing my rest time between sets down to 60-90 seconds if possible.
I didn't get out on the bike yesterday. It was overcast and very windy in the morning... and as a result "my get up and go must have got up and went"... and by the time the weather cleared up (it was actually pretty nice for most of the afternoon) I was already deep into working on the property. Again, I did get over 13k steps in that process, so it's not like I did nothing.
I re-configured my cycling schedule... it's still good, just not as much mileage as I had anticipated leading up to the MS Ride. My longest week before the event will be 100 miles, with a step-back week after I hit the first 50 mile week and three weeks with back-to-back (Sat-Sun) rides with my gear, including one which will be an overnight to a local state forest to check my camping set-up, leading up to the big weekend. I'm sure I will be well-prepared, even with the decrease in overall mileage.
edit: Bike - 12.15mi in 1.04.37 (11.2), HR 118 (Z2 3.47), windy AF.

Another very productive day off yesterday, which unfortunately did not include my scheduled bike ride. That makes it three weeks in a row that I didn't ride on my day off, which suggests that perhaps scheduling a ride on my day off isn't going to work. I moved some things around on my workout schedule (and my day off will be changing over the next few weeks) so hopefully that solves the problem.
In addition to the concrete guy coming and doing a few little projects in the morning, I was able to run a few errands in the afternoon, and then went to do the provisioning in the evening. I bought a bunch of stuff to re-configure my irrigation systems (i.e. new hoses, connectors, nozzles, etc) at Home Depot, so installing all that will be on the schedule for Saturday, in addition to my annual Earth Day tree planting project (I am picking up 50 seedlings tomorrow) and starting all my seeds for the vegetable garden.
And in the good news/bad news department... unfortunately my beloved 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck has died. It lasted me over ten years, and hauled everything around from the day we bought this house (including furniture, landscaping supplies, and construction materials). I will miss having a truck, but this particular truck has a lot of sentimental value, and I will hate to see it go.
But we found out yesterday that Son #2 finally got a job! He's going to be working for the big law firm Morgan and Morgan as a Litigation Assistant, with an entry level package that will allow him to afford an apartment in Philadelphia and get started with his career. Obviously, this is a BIG relief for us, as we can not only move forward with getting him settled into the next chapter of his life, but have more comfort with our planning for my wife's retirement next year.
She mentioned the other day that when she does retire, we won't have her income to fund any more major construction projects around the property, so there is more urgency to get the big stuff done between now and then. The last upgrade we want to make is to rebuild the screen porch that was originally on the house, and I've started getting estimates to have that done, as it's too big of a project for me to tackle on my own.

Congratulations on dear son's job! Does he have aspirations to become an attorney?

Congratulations on dear son's job! Does he have aspirations to become an attorney? He might. He (wisely) wants to work at a firm for a year or two to see if he likes the field before spending the time to study for the LSAT and then spending the money to pay for law school.

Bike - 12.25mi in 1.04.34 (11.3), HR 122 (Z2 15.32), overcast and cool.
I got up, got out of bed, and got on the road this morning, which was great from a physical, mental, and emotional standpoint. With that said, I did not get to do my pushups yesterday... when I went to pack my food for the day I realized that I didn't have a dinner entree meal-prepped, so I took twenty minutes to cook (whole wheat pasta with meat sauce) and that threw off my schedule. It happened, and I'm not going to try and make up the workout. In fact, I'm going to try to get 100 tomorrow and see where that puts me in relation to my goal. If I don't get there (or at least close) I may spend next week continuing to try for the number, working with longer sets.
I went out after work last night to watch the second half of the Sixers play-in tournament game. Since I don't have ESPN, I asked on FB for suggestions, and several people recommended a hole-in-the-wall place that I knew of but had never been. I generally don't like walking into a strange bar by myself (especially down here, where you don't really know what you are getting into) but it was a friendly vibe (they even had a BYOF buffet set-up, which I did not partake in given my aversion to potlucks) and they came back from a thirteen point deficit at halftime when I got there to win by one point and advance into the first round of the playoffs against the Knickerbockers. So that was a good time, although it was late when I got home and I really had to fight (successfully) the urge to tuck into some food and tucked myself into bed instead. My drink (bourbon on the rocks with a diet coke on the side) was less than five dollars with tip, which was remarkable as well...
Other than that, I've got to pick up the trees this morning, as well as buy my tickets for the annual Gun Bash that happens in July and is one of the highlights of the summer. I'm on the radio tomorrow morning, and will be talking about the four questions that will determine how successful someone will be when starting a wellness transformation. I'm going to run a special pricing promotion as well, and plan to advertise it next week to see if it generates any clients.

Two developments in the charitable athletics department.
1) My company is participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and this week we rolled out a "Round Up Your Total" incentive at the registers to raise funds for the event/cause. Since I was the only one who expressed any interest in learning more about the program, I was named as "Team Captain" for the store. The issues are that the event is a) May 18th - a date I already have committed to another event. b) The event is at a location that is over two hours away. c) The more local event isn't until the fall, so that isn't an option. So I'm just going to try and motivate my co-workers to raise the money through the donation program and bail on trying to put together a team to actually do the relay. Maybe next year (with more notice) we can do more.
2) My wife's employer is a major participant in the MS Ride that takes place in Philadelphia in the fall, and I've been asked to join "Team Penn" as a participant, given my cycling/fundraising experience (I am looking at an award hanging over my desk for being a "Gold Club" member for the last time I did this particular ride, which I think was the $1000 level). Issues with this are a) It's the same weekend as the triathlon here in town that I was planning to do. b) If I change plans, that will also change my entire training program for the summer. c) There was a very good chance that I wouldn't complete that training program (learning to open-water swim... or just swimming in general). So I think I'm going to move forward with this one... the added benefit is that the team is administrated through my wife's department (since MS is a neurological disease) and she knows all the major players on the team, so she is excited about my possible involvement.
So I'll be getting out my pencil and eraser and figuring out what my summer months will look like... certainly there will be more biking than I thought. The registration date for the marathon is also coming up, so I'll have to commit to that soon as well.
edit: Pushups - 50 straight. I could have done more... maybe 75? But I am short on time this morning since I have to get to the radio station, so that was enough for today. I'll try again on Sunday. But I have to say... to be able to do fifty nonstop with good form felt pretty good. That would win me a bar bet in most cases.

Wow 50 pushups in a row. That is fucking impressive. I couldn't do that in my prime in the army. It was the only thing that kept me from maxing the PT test. 50 was max. May 18th sounds familiar. We have been invited to two different wine / food events that night. My wife is trying to decide which one she will attend. I will be having ibuprofen, gummies, and probably room service while regretting my life choices. I forget what you are doing on the 18th - I think it was a bike ride but my impending senility is acting up. When is the MS ride and do you need a team member? My good friend is wheelchair bound due to MS and it is a cause I would gladly support. If it doesn't work for me to participate I will be sending money.

Guys, I am honestly astonished at your comments. I didn't think much of getting to 50... I was bummed I didn't do more. So to hear someone like Mac say he couldn't do that in his prime blew my mind. A sincere thank you for the compliment... it will make 100 that much sweeter.
The MS Rides are two-day events, usually with a range of 25-100 miles on Saturday, some kind of dinner Saturday night, and then 25-65 on Sunday. The Philly ride is an out and back, the Chesapeake ride does two loops from the same location (The one I did in Jersey was a point-to-point). You don't need to be a team member, but there are a LOT of teams involved. The University of Pennsylvania team that I will be a part of was the top fundraising team last year, generating about $175k (and about $3.75m in the past 25 years). We should talk more offline about your friend...
I am planning to do a somewhat local ride on the 18th... probably only 35-40 miles, not a charity event but one organized by a bike club (but not the one I "belong" to). Until I found the info on the concert in June, I was still thinking I might try to get up there for the end of your run. But if I'm going to venture into the swamps of Jersey, I'd rather hang out with some long haired smelly hippies than some barefoot smelly runners LOL.
Speaking of which... it's 4/20, so I guess in addition to planting trees I will be smoking some. And it's Earth Day (not your birthday)... if you're happy it's a mirth day, if you're blue... Smurf day. I'll get out for a ride at some point this weekend... it's starting out to be damp and overcast, but if it turns out like last weekend it will be a good afternoon to work on the property, so the ride may get moved to tomorrow. And the Sixers play at 6pm on ESPN, which means I will have to go out to watch it (not sure where yet).
I bought a piece of steak for dinner... I don't know much about different cuts of meat, so maybe you all can help. It's labeled as a "US Raised USDA Choice Premium Black Angus Sirloin Steak." That all sounds good, right? It's a half pound (boneless)... I took it out and salted both sides this morning... is that the right way to start the preparation? What's the best way to cook it (and don't suggest sous vide or kamodo, cause I ain't got those).

For steak I like to grill at high heat either gas or charcoal. If for some reason I can't do that I will preheat the oven to 350. Preheat a cast iron pan on high the stove, add butter, and sear both sides. I then put the pan with the steak in the oven for a few minutes until done approx 135 F for med rare. I remove from pan and let rest for 5 - 10 minutes while I make the salad or vegetable. Let's see if Seltzer has a different method for cooking without a grill.

I did end up using the grill... as hot as it would go (which was medium at best) with the lid closed for ten minutes (which was too long for as thin a piece of steak as it was), and then a quick char on both sides over a flaming part of the grill for a minute or two on both sides to finish. I dabbed it with butter as it cooled while I made a salad and some crispy bread. It was pretty good but not great, but for the first time firing up the grill this year it was a win.

Week 1 (Apr 1-7): 169.5 lbs @ 17.1% BF (28.9), 131/80 BP, 63 HR, 164.2 BS, 7.43 sleep (.31 deep) Week 2 (Apr 8-14): 168.6 lbs @ 16.7% BF (28.2), 121/79 BP, 62 HR, 146.8 BS, 7.30 sleep (.40 deep) Week 3 (Apr 15-21): 167.9 lbs @ 16.7% BF (28.0), 124/81 BP, 62 HR, 147.0 BS, 7.24 sleep (.40 deep)
A little disappointing that I didn't lose more weight, but we all know weight loss is not linear. Patience, my young friend... patience.
I logged almost 17,000 steps yesterday. We went to the Earth Day event and walked around there, picking up a few more trees for the afternoon's dirt-fest, as well as listening to a few tunes by a friend's band and seeing a bunch of people we know from our permaculture club. In addition to the holiday (and being 4/20), it was also Record Store Day so we made a quick stop to pick up a disc for this morning's Sunday Stereo Session. I thought I was getting a used copy of The Mamas and Papas second, self-titled album... but when I took it out to play it, the disc inside the cover was their first album, If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears, which is as good if not better than what I was expecting, as it has "California Dreamin" and "Monday Monday." I will be calling the store today on the odd chance they accidentally swapped the discs when putting them into the new paper inner sleeves (as they do with all their used records), but in any case it's a good one.
Got home and started on the property, and continued to make good progress, laying out the irrigation system, clearing off the back patio where the new porch will be, and of course cutting grass. The excavator guy came and gave me a quote close to what I was expecting, so we are going to get that done in the next few weeks. It will save me about ten days of labor by having him do most of the work, and as a bonus he will help spread the stone for the driveway resurfacing while he has the equipment here, which is another thing that will be crossed off the list. The tree planting went as planned, although I didn't have as many saplings as I thought, so we ended up with closer to 25, which all went into large pots (old 3 and 5 gallon buckets) until they start budding, at which point I will start moving them into individual pots as they get larger. With all this, I didn't eat dinner until around 9pm, at which point I called it a day. Good times.
