Yesterday's steps: 9,370; m-t-d: 11,405; y-t-d average: 12,973
After workout protein shake: day 36/36.
Weds: 2/26/20. Shoulders; Triceps; Squats. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 21/26. Today was a lousy day for lifting, I felt weak, and my joints were achy. But I am still glad I went to work out today. In the office I work, yesterday the people were talking about Coronavirus. They advise to go shopping and stock up on food and water, since you might not be able to leave your house if it gets bad, and the stores might be closed (like parts of China). I got to say, that talk got me anxious, and was thinking, maybe I better make a Costco run this weekend. Even before that, I was thinking if they will close the gym, since a gym is a place where a lot of germs could spread. I actually am surprised it has not reached the US to a much larger extent than it has so far. I am sure that will change. I am sorry I take this drug methotrexate for my psoriatic arthritis, it slows down your immune system, so you are more susceptible to viruses etc.

The Coronavirus, specifically Covid-19 is a topic of conversation in my office too. I had a little bit of a tidy of my desk today and took the opportunity to give it a good clean with anti-bacterial and anti-viral wipes. Cleaned the mouse, keyboard, monitor and phone too. Also wiped over the kettle and fridge doors. Not a bad idea to do that every now and again anyway. My partner is actually a bit worried that it might impact on our booked holidays this year, specifically a trip to Barbados in just under four weeks time. I wouldn't want the spread of the virus preventing us getting there although I am secretly hopeful that flights out are stopped for a few weeks once we've already got there.
Fortunately, the virus is still mainly limited (numbers wise) to China, Japan and South Korea but Italy now has 374 cases and a lot of Brits have returned home from skiing trips there recently.
I might have mentioned before that my gym has brought in a lot of bottles of cleansing hand-gel. It's something that I think my workplace should do.

I might have mentioned before that my gym has brought in a lot of bottles of cleansing hand-gel. It's something that I think my workplace should do. The whole situation is scary, but I wonder it is overblown. In the US, they say over 30,000 die per year just from the flu. That doesn't make the news. This reminds me of the issue with Vaping (Electronic Cigarettes). In the US, roughly 40 people died from Vaping (in the whole country). There are all these measures trying to outlaw them. Yet, 10's of thousands of people die each year from tobacco cigarettes annually in the US, and they are still legal. Yesterday's steps: 11,014; m-t-d: 11,390; y-t-d average: 12,938 After workout protein shake: day 36/36. Thurs: 2/27/20. Rest day. m-t-d workouts: 21/27. I surprised myself by taking another rest day today. I woke up feeling really tired, even though I went to sleep early last night. On the bright side, yesterday they had a birthday cake in the office I work in, and even though I was handed a big piece, I put it on the table, and didn't eat any cake. Typically, I eat 1 piece in the boardroom where the cake was, and then I as I am walking out, I take another piece to eat at my desk (which usually I eat in less than a minute). But the issue wasn't totally willpower. Normally I eat LaraBars, usually 2 a day. I like them because they are gluten free, and some of them are made up of only 3 ingredients, usually no more than 6. But the day before, instead I ate 2 Cliff Bars. I had thought Cliff Bars were gluten free, but they are not. So I had my usual gastro problems when I eat gluten (I won't list them in case anyone is eating breakfast when they are reading this) , so I still was recovering from that yesterday. But I am not out of the woods yet, as there is 1/2 of the cake left in the refrigerator. One time I ate no cake the day of the event, but the next day shoveled cake non stop into my mouth. I don't think that will happen today. Weds nutrition: calories: 3,317; m-t-d: 3,231; y-t-d: 3,543 Carbs: 441 53% Protein: 122 15% Fat: 125 34% total: 101% Gluten free day: yes Sodium: 4,751 mg. Yesterday's steps: 11,240; m-t-d: 11,385; y-t-d average: 12,909
After workout protein shake: day 37/37.
Friday: 2/28/20. leg training. Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 22/28. Good leg training session today. I am hoping to get a better handle on nutrition in March. While February was much better than January, there still is a lot of room for improvement. The high calorie level is not what bothers me most, it is when I lose control. Like when I ate a whole bag of Hershey Miniatures in less than 15 minutes, and earlier in the month I did the same with M&M's. I had a bag of candy corn from Halloween, and while not a healthy food, at least I have so far eaten it over 3 days, and there is about 1/2 the bag left (yes, I love to eat candy). Starting today, no more splenda; equal or sweet & low. If I do use sweetener, it is only going to be stevia. If I do have anything in my house that does have those ingredients, I am going to finish them, and buy no more. I think I have some Crystal Light, and maybe some of the supplements (whey, and BCCA's have those ingredients). The difficult thing is the no splenda in coffee, and Crystal Light will be hard to give up.

Sunday: 3/01/20. back; abs. Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 1/1. I am pretty much a fatalist, whatever happens will happen. I don't really worry about things I have no control of. No stocking up on food this weekend for coronavirus. I have enough food without going food shopping to last 2-3 months. Though not necessarily the food I would want to eat for the next 2 months. But I wouldn't starve. Tomorrow - cardio. Many posted photo's of their pets for their avatar. There was a fad of something called the "pet rock", I think in the 1970's. My avatar is my pet rock. Yesterday's steps: ; m-t-d: ; y-t-d average: (don't have phone with me, so don't have info today) After workout protein shake: day 40/40. Days without eating: splenda; equal; sweet & low: 4 Monday: 3/02/20. 60 elliptical; 15 treadmill (running slowly). Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 2/2. I forgot my phone today. Half way to the gym I remembered, but didn't want to turn back. I feel lost without it. Yesterday my nutrition was terrible, but I hope that was a fluke, and the rest of the month will be an improvement. Not a good way to start the month off. I mentioned many times about my gastro problems. I am cautiously optimistic that I found the real cause - Splenda. I had thought it was gluten, now I am not so sure. I didn't know there was any issue with splenda, but since I stopped having it, just 4 days ago, I feel much better. When I started to feel better, I looked on the internet, and many complain sucralose (Splenda), gives them gastro problems. I saw a youtube video that Splenda kills the good bacteria in the microbiome. But you have to take anything you see on youtube with a hefty dose of skepticism. I had been having at least 2 packets with every coffee I drink, usually 2, sometimes 3 or more times a day. It is too early to tell if that was the cause (I have been down this road before many times when I thought I found the cause - gluten for example), but I have had no issues over the weekend since I cut that out of my diet (but I did have gluten). Tuesday: 3/03/20: shoulders; triceps; legs (only squats). Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 3/3. Excellent workout today. On my commute to NYC, when the bus gets off the Garden State Parkway to get onto Route 80, it goes through a small industrial area. For years, there was a big sign: John Stone Supply. Coincidentally, about the time the JSF site closed, that sign went down. I guess they moved, funny the timing. Tomorrow, chest training (abbreviated), cardio. I hope to take a long walk at lunch time, I only have 5K steps now. I want to get the year to date average back over 13K.

Funny thing about the sign. Glad you had such a good workout. Thank you. Yesterday's steps: 8,392; m-t-d: 9,886; y-t-d average: 12,712 After workout protein shake: day 42/42. Days without eating: splenda; equal; sweet & low: 6 Weds: 3/4/20: chest training; 10 minutes treadmill (before lifting warm up). Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 4/4. No walking at lunch time yesterday. I was wrong about the Splenda being the cause of my gastro issues. I haven't had any for 6 days now, but last night I ate Rice Roni (the San Francisco treat ). It didn't even occur to me it had noodles in it, I was thinking of it as a rice dish. But I ate that last night, and had a recurrence of the gastro issues this morning, so I am pretty sure it is the gluten. Nevertheless, I am still going to keep artificial sweeteners out of my diet. Couldn't get myself to do cardio today (except for 10 minute warm up), so I did extra chest exercises. I have a childish attitude, didn't feel like cardio, so didn't do it. Good I didn't feel like eating ice cream for breakfast, or that might have been my breakfast. Tomorrow - back training. Were you using artificial sweeteners to minimize calories from sugar?

Were you using artificial sweeteners to minimize calories from sugar? I am so used to artificial sweeteners, sugar is not sweet enough. For years, I used to drink a 2 liter bottle of diet soda each day. Imagine how fat I would be if I didn't at the time drink diet soda, and had regular soda instead. Yesterday's steps: 11,673; m-t-d: 10,333; y-t-d average: 12,696 After workout protein shake: day 43/43. Days without eating: splenda; equal; sweet & low: 7 Thurs: 3/5/20: back training. Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 5/5. Stomach has calmed down from yesterday, still not normal, but a big improvement over yesterday. I have gotten used to having coffee without sweetener pretty quickly. I was going to buy Stevia instead, but I think I will instead just add milk and skip the sweetener, since it doesn't bother me not having the sweetener. Like usual, I am not eating any food until I get home tonight. I think my stomach can use a break from eating. It feels best when I eat nothing. I had made an appointment with the gastroenterologist for yesterday, but when I had thought Splenda was the cause of my issues, I cancelled it. Before making another appointment, I am going to be beyond disciplined, and have no gluten for at least a month, and see it that is solely the cause. Tomorrow - leg training. Friday: 3/6/20: leg training. Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 6/6. I plan on starting to run tomorrow. I had been walking, interspersed with running, but I am going to try running with no walking breaks. Wherever I go, especially in Manhattan, I see people eating. Virtually the first floor of every office building in Midtown Manhattan, there are restaurants and takeout places. I look in the windows, everyone is enjoying food. I am jealous. When I look at food, all I see are the calories, or how bad or good it is for you. TGIF.

When I look at food, all I see are the calories, or how bad or good it is for you. I'm getting that too. There was an article in the Washington Post about Wendy's new breakfast menu and my stomach just turned into a knot looking at all the fried bread and fatty meats without a vegetable in sight. I just wish it stopped me from eating that kind of junk.

There was an article in the Washington Post about Wendy's new breakfast menu and my stomach just turned into a knot looking at all the fried bread and fatty meats without a vegetable in sight. I just wish it stopped me from eating that kind of junk. It is funny how knowing something, doesn't automatically change behavior. I hear people say that they are fat because they eat to stuff down their feelings (the cause is due to emotional issues). If knowing that doesn't get you on a treadmill (what is the point of knowing that information). Yesterday's steps: 6,246; m-t-d: 9,132; y-t-d average: 12,516 After workout protein shake: day 45/45. Days without eating: splenda; equal; sweet & low: 9 Saturday: 3/7/20: chest; ab training, 30 elliptical (before lifting). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 7/7. I had planned to run today. I got to the gym, and my Garmin watch was dead, even though I charged it yesterday. I think I somehow turned on the GPS, which uses a lot of battery power. Normally it is supposed to last for 6-7 days. So if I am not getting credit for the steps, why run? I can do that tomorrow. Gym was very crowded today. I am used to being there 5:00 am during the week, so I am not used to not having access to equipment when I want to use it, since it is already being used. But I got my 9 exercises done, plus abs, and had a fairly good workout. I now like doing the incline bench press first, and next do the flat bench press, since the flat bench press feels so light after the incline bench press, even though I use heavier weights on the flat bench press. I don't know why that is. Tomorrow - running, and back training.
